U.S. ARMY 105TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

The 105th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia features the unit motto, “Unlimited Support,” in a scroll acting as base for a shield containing an oak leaf, a symbol of provision and strength, superimposed on a boot displaying a crescent and a star. These represent New Orleans, the most famous city in the unit’s home state of Louisiana and nicknamed "Crescent City."

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 105th Support Battalion was originally constituted in the Regular Army as the 5th Division Supply Train and assigned to the 5th Division (5th Infantry Division after February 1942). It was redesignated twice before seeing combat in World War I, the second time as the 5th Supply Train, and served with the 5th Division throughout the war. Inactivated in 1921, the unit would undergo several redesignations before deployment into a combat area as the 5th Quartermaster Company. Between 1946 and 1957, it would undergo four inactivations and three reactivations; after a five-year inactivation that began in 1957, it was redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Supply and Transport Battalion, and activated at Fort Carson in 1962.

Inactivated in 1970, the Battalion would remain dormant until 1 May 1987, when it was consolidated with the 105th Supply and Transport Battalion and the newly consolidated unit was redesignated as the 105th Support Battalion, an element of the 5th Infantry. It would retain this designation for just five years before being inactivated along with the rest of the 5th Infantry Division.
