The 105th Signal Battalion was formed in the South Carolina Army National Guard on 15 March 1979 as the Battalion’s HQ and HQ Detachment and organized and Federally recognized on 1 May 1979. On 1 October 1996, it was consolidated with the 113th Transportation Detachment and the unit created retained the 105th’s designation of HQ and HQ Detachment, 105th Signal Battalion.
The 105th Signal Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), also called a unit crest, was approved on 20 May 1980. Orange and white (silver) are the colors of Army Signal Corps units, and the crossed palmetto leaves and torch mimic the Signal Corps insignia of two crossed Signal flags intersected by a golden torch. Both the torch and circular lightning flashes symbolize leadership and suggest the unit’s mission and capabilities via modern electronic communications.
The crescent moon and palmetto leaves are common emblems of South Carolina, the unit’s home state. “Ubiquitous,” the unit motto, means omnipresent or being everywhere (or seeming to be everywhere) at one time, a concept reinforced by the all-encapsulating lightning flash and scroll.
As of Summer 2023, the 105th Signal Battalion is no longer an active unit in the South Carolina Army National Guard.

Distinctive Unit Insignia are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
