U.S. ARMY ARMOR CENTER PATCH (SSI) (OBSOLETE)

Consisting of the familiar blue-red-yellow pyramid design used as the basis for all Armor Divisional insignia and a tab with the inscription “USA Armor Center,” this Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI) was originally approved on 18 April 1958 for wear by personnel assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Group, U.S. Army Armor Center.

For a dozen years, the insignia consisted of a separate tab that as manually placed beneath the pyramid. This changed on 6 November 1970 with an amendment that made the pyramid and the tab a single component. This insignia became obsolete when Armor training was relocated from Fort Knox to Fort Benning (now named Fort Moore) in Georgia; it was replaced by an insignia using the the same design but inscribed “The Armor School” instead of “USA Armor Center.”
