American Defense Ribbon was approved by Executive Order on June 28, 1941 and authorized by the Dept of Navy for the Navy and Marine Corps on April 20, 1942.

Awarded for active duty during national and limited emergencies just prior to World War II.

Devices worn with this ribbon include the Bronze star, bronze letter "A" (not worn with bronze star)
