U.S. ARMY 828TH TRANSPORTATION BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Approved on 1 November 1971, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 828th Transportation Battalion features an annulet of brick red and golden yellow—branch color of the Transportation Corps—encircling a heraldic fountain of blue and white wavy line bars. The fountain, symbolic of water, rests atop a blue quill with gold shaft that is a medieval emblem of authority; together, the fountain and quill allude to the overall mission. The annulet simulates a wheel and represents the Corps and indicates unity. Two golden flashes in the annulet are emblems of speed and efficiency, two hallmarks of the technological process made in the unit’s capabilities.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
