U.S. ARMY 787TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 787th Military Police Battalion was constituted under that designation on 12 November 1942 in the Army of the United States and activated on 28 November 1942 at Fort Custer, Michigan. During World War II, the Battalion took part in the Northern France campaign and was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its exceptional service. Inactivated on 31 December 1946 in France, it would remain inactive for nearly forty years.

On 16 September 1986, it was allotted to the Regular Army and redesignated as the 787th Military Police Battalion. Concurrently, its Headquarters were transferred to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Comme and organized at Fort McClellan, Alabama. Inactivated on 1 September 1999 at Fort McClellan, the Battalion was reactivated on 1 October 1999 at Fort Leonard Wood, its current home station. The unit carries the official Special Designation "Praetorians."

As of Autumn 2023, the 787th Military Police Battalion continues its Training mission at Fort Leonard Wood.

Approved on November 1986, the 787th Military Police Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia highlights the unit's  World War II service in Northern France is symbolized by a blue fleur-de-lis on a gold background, while its Meritorious Unit Commendation is represented by the red wavy bend that recalls a scarlet streamers. Green and yellow represent the Military Police Corps. "Excellence Always" is the Battalion motto.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
