U.S. ARMY 759TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 759th Military Police Battalion was originally constituted on 19 August 1942 in the Army of the United States under that designation and activated on 15 September 1942 at Fort Ontario, New York. During World War, it would serve in a total of six campaigns in the European Theater, earning an Arrowhead device to denote participation in an assault landing for the Southern France campaign. Reorganized and redesignated on 17 September 1947 as the 759th Military Police Service Battalion and then on 20 November 1950 under its current designation, the unit was inactivated on 1 November 1953.

It would be reactivated on 6 June 1968 at Fort Dix New Jersey (though its organic elements were inactivated on 1 November 1970). Deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the Battalion would take part in all three campaigns in Southwest Asia and earn a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

While the Battalion’s campaign credits for deployments in the War on Terrorism are yet to be determined, it has been awarded three Meritorious Unit Commendations for its service between 2004 and 2010, the most recent for establishing a police presence in eastern Afghanistan by training substantial numbers of Afghan National Police personnel as well as conducting more than 1300 combat patrols.

Officially nicknamed “Lone Sentinel,” as of Autumn 2023 the 759th Military Police Battalion is based at Fort Carson, Colorado and consists of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, four Military Police Companies (59th, 69th, 127th, and 984th) and the 184th Military Police Detachment.

Approved on 2 October 1952, the 759th Military Police Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, highlights the organization’s World War II service in the European Theater with six fleurs-de-lis and a palm tree (for deployment to North Africa). On the right is an image of the “Luftbrucke,’ a monument erected in what was formally the Western Sector of Berlin to represent the Battalion’s participation in the Berlin Airlift. TENEZ LA PORTE, the Battalion motto, translates in English as "Hold The Gate” (or door or entrance), and is a reference to gateway found on the unit’s coat of arms that symbolizes fortified Europe during World War II.

Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
