The design of the 704th Military Police Battalion unit crest, or Distinctive Unit Insignia, pays homage to the unit’s home base of Fort Lewis, now a joint facility as the result a merger with the U.S. Air Force’s McChord Air Force Base. “Sentinels of Justice,” the unit’s motto, is inscribed on scrolls superimposed over a type of Northwest Coast art commonly referred to as a “ totem pole,” while in the background a verdant mountain with a snow-capped peak looms behind the pole.

Besides its work at Fort Lewis, the 704th also provided personnel to support refugee resettlement operations at Guantanamo Bay, alongside other troops from U.S. Army I Corps. The Battalion also assisted in drug interdiction operations along the Southern border of the United States.
