U.S. ARMY 642ND MILITARY INTELLIGENZE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the 642nd Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved with an effective date of 1 September 1996. Its oriental blue and silver-gray tones are the official branch colors of the Military Intelligence Corps. A checky (checkered) field is also a reference to the Military Intelligence branch as it symbolizes the maneuvers and activities involved in the organization’s mission.

“Eyes Of The Warrior,” the Battalion motto, is reinforced with the images of the head of a warrior with his armored helmet raised to denote clear vision and heightened perception. A black background behind the warrior is the color of resolve and strength of purpose, with the white background connoting integrity.

The 642nd Military Intelligence Battalion is an inactive unit in the New York Army National Guard. Readily available public information does not make it clear whether the unit was inactivated, deactivated, redesignated, or converted to or consolidated with another unit.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
