U.S. ARMY 3RD SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE PATCH (SSI)

Originally constituted as the 3rd Infantry Division Trains in 1957, the 3rd Sustainment Brigade spent the next 50 years as a component of the 3rd Infantry Division, both as a Division Support Command and a Division Support Brigade, earning a Presidential Unit Citation as the latter for its deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. It received its current designation as a separate Sustainment Brigade on 21 April 2006. In 2013, it was honored with a Meritorious Unit Citation for service between 2010 – 2011 (Army General Order 2013-80 does not specify location).

The 3rd Sustainment Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (unit patch) emphasizes the unit’s long affiliation with the 3rd Infantry Division with blue and white diagonal stripes forming the field of the shield; they’re taken from the design of the 3rd Infantry Division’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. A trio of red arrows is a reference to the unit’s numerical designation, with the color red being used to connote enthusiasm and action. In heraldry, dragons are traditionally a symbol of power and preparedness.
