U.S. ARMY 377TH REGIMENT DISTINCTIVE UNIT INSIGNIA (DUI)

The 377th Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally designed and approved for the 377th Infantry Regiment on 11 August 1927 and was redesignated for the 377th Regiment on 24 January 1962. Its white (silver) shield is a nod to the unit’s origins in the Infantry branch (white was the official Infantry branch color during two period in Army’s history), and the green fess (horizontal bar) denotes that is located in the oil belt. The gouttes—a figure of an elongated pear with wavy sides—resemble drops of liquid, in this case oil. With three gouttes on the fess (green horizontal bar) and seven both on and below it, going from top to bottom you can discern “377,” the Regiment’s numerical designation. NI GA DA E SA SDI, the Battalion motto, is from the Cherokee Indian language and translates into English as “Onward.”

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Constituted in 1918 in the National Army as the 377th Infantry and assigned to the 95th Division (later 95th Infantry Division), the 377th Regiment fought in four World War II campaigns before returning to the U.S. and being allotted to the Organized Reserves, which became the Army Reserve after 1952.

From 1959 forward, the Regiment’s Battalions have served as Training units designated as elements of the 95th Training Division. Today, the 377th Regiment has a single Battalion assigned to the 95th Training Division, specifically its 1st Brigade. The 95th Training Division is a component of the 108th Training Command, U.S. Army Reserve.
