U.S. ARMY 347TH REPLACEMENT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 347th Replacement Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was first approved on 9 January 1969. It was redesignated for the 347th Personnel and Administration Battalion on 19 April 1972 and again for the 347th Replacement Battalion, with description and symbolism revised, on 26 November 1990. It features the dark blue and scarlet tones that are associated with the Adjutant General’s Corp, the branch under which Replacement units operate. A gold fleur-de-lis in the center and six rays emanating from behind the gold disc represent the Battalion’s battle honors for six campaign in Europe during World War II. The rays also symbolize light beams as a reference to the unit’s mission of receiving and guiding replacement personnel. The rectangular, quartered shape counterchanged in scarlet and dark blue is known in heraldry as a billet; its division alludes to the billeting of replacement and the assignment of quarters. A disc upon which the billet rests is a sign of continuity, with a checkered scheme further signifying the processing and reclassification of personnel.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

A unit in the Army Reserve, the 347th Replacement Battalion was originally constituted as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD), 10th Replacement Battalion on 3 March 1942 and activated at Camp Edwards, Mississippi on 16 March 1942. Deployed to Central Europe, it was inactivated on 28 June 1946 in France after taking part in a half-dozen campaigns.

Over the next several decades, it would be redesignated and/or reorganized as HHD 347th Replacement Battalion (September 1947), HHD 347th Personnel and Administration Battalion (February 1972), HHD 347th Replacement Battalion (September 1990), 347th Adjutant General Reception Battalion (1996), and 347th Replacement Battalion (2002). On 21 May 2013, it was tapped for an Army Superior Unit Award (Permanent Order 141-06, DAGO 2017–23) for its service between 23 June 2010 and 1 November 2010 while assigned to the United States Army CONUS Replacement Center: The Battalion processed an impressive 28,656 personnel for deployment or redeployment in support of five contingency operations over three dozen countries.

As of 2021, the Battalion appears to be inactivated.
