The four shades used for the color version of the 205th Infantry Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia—blue, white, red, and yellow—were the colors of the Infantry, Artillery, and Armor components of the Brigade when the insignia was approved on 9 January 1964. An upright bayonet reflects the fighting spirit of the Brigade, which took part in three World War II campaigns (Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe) while designated as the 103d Reconnaissance Troop, Mechanized.
Originally constituted under its current designation in June 1921, the Brigade fought as an element of the 103rd Infantry Division during World War II. Following the war, it underwent several redesignations before relieved from assignment to the 103rd Infantry Division and converted and redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 205th Infantry Brigade.
The 205th Infantry Brigade wore this unit patch from the time of its approval until 1 December 2006, when it was Headquarters was activated at Indianapolis and assigned to First Army; at this point, the personnel of the Brigade began to wear First Army Shoulder Sleeve Insignia.
At a ceremony held 10 November 2015 at Camp Atterbury in Indiana, the 205th Infantry Brigade cased its colors for the last time. It was officially deactivated and reorganized under the 157th Combined Arms Training Brigade.
